VALUE CHAINS: The value and impact of craft.

The crafts provide unique and powerful platforms to know and make the world we inhabit. At Value Chains we will discuss ideals that shape and motivate craft practice and reflect on the contribution it makes in various settings. Value Chains promises to inspire both insight and practice.

The term Value chains is borrowed from the world of commerce and yet here refers to the connected nature of jewellery and metalsmithing across time, place and community - providing fertile terrain for practice and research. Value chains suggest linkages between makers, wearers, users and viewers of crafted objects and to the networks of cooperation, collaboration that shape our field. The theme embraces the devalued, revalued or undervalued and much more. Our aim is to open up dialogue on why we do what we do and to consider afresh why it matters?
